Day One

To start off, you may want to make sure that you are in 1 John and not just John. The Bible can be confusing enough, let’s not get lost right out of the gate. For those of us who don’t know about 1 John, lets get a little bit of insight before we begin this 30 day devotional. 1, 2, and 3 John were written by the apostle John, who also wrote the Gospel of John (he obviously was a fan of his name) and Revelation. He was a fisherman, one of Jesus’ inner circle (together with James and Peter), and “the disciple whom Jesus loved” (John 13:23).

The Book of 1 John is a book of love and joy. It explains the fellowship we have with others and with Jesus Christ. It differentiates between happiness, which is temporary and fleeting, and true joy, which 1 John tells us how to achieve. If we take the next 30 days to apply the words written by John; the true love, commitment, fellowship, and joy most of us long for will be ours.
