The Friday 5 : Jimmy Hoofnagle

THE FRIDAY 5

Each week we are highlighting someone at Mission who will answer 5 questions! Our church may be growing, but getting to know your neighbors should never be hard to do.

Jimmy Hoofnagle

The Facts:  I am a student at Wheaton College. I study applied health science and love weightlifting. I work as a strength and conditioning coach at Chicago Christian High School and at TC Boost. If I am not working or studying then look in the Wheaton College weight room and there is a very decent chance you'll find me. I also love dogs, fishing and just hanging out with the family.

1. In one word how would your friends describe you?

Encouraging. I love to motivate people. I really enjoy weightlifting and coaching it and training alongside others has taught me the importance of being a motivating presence. So, I try to always encourage and motivate people in their walk with Christ.

2. What is playing on your radio, iPod, etc?

I listen to country music a lot. My favorite artist is Eric Church because he still writes his own songs and his lyrics are deeper and more creative. In the weight room I'll listen to anything from worship music to the Foo Fighters.

3. Who is the person who has had the biggest impact on your life?

My dad has had the biggest impact on my life. He has been so selfless as a husband and father, as he has always put my mom or my siblings and me before himself. He has also taught me the importance of integrity and work ethic. In addition to being a man of great character, he has always been a huge goofball and always looks to brighten people's day with a witty joke. My dream is that I can one day be half the husband and father my dad was, because he is outstanding.

4. Your last meal on earth would be where?

My mom's taquitos. She takes ground chicken, black beans, onions, spinach, cheese and a bunch of spices and cooks them all down before rolling it all up in a corn tortilla and baking them. Every time I visit home she has a whole batch ready to go and I eat about 7 in a sitting.

5. What is one thing you love about Mission?

I LOVE Mission Church! It has been so formative for my faith as I have learned so much about being what it means to follow Jesus. I became a Christian at 17 and mission has been my first church home. Two things I have learned through Jon's preaching or at mission groups that have really stuck with me over the last two years are: 1) That we are a product of grace and are still unfinished. 2) That we should live lives that are questionable, in that we submit ourselves to God so that His radical love and grace shine through us.
