Here’s some helpful tips as you go through your November “Perseverance” section together!

What does persevere mean?

Persevere means, we keep going even when things are hard, because God helps us.

When have you kept going even when it was hard?

Parents, when you share your own story, big or small, you show your child what faith looks like in real life. It helps them see that perseverance isn’t about being strong on our own, but about letting God give us strength.

So you could kickstart the conversation with,
“I remember a time when...”
“Sometimes it’s hard to…”
“When I feel like giving up, I…”

How does God help us persevere?

When we persevere God is with us and He gives us strength. Job had a lot of tough times; he lost almost everything! But he didn’t stop trusting God. Even when Job was sad and confused, he believed that God still cared for him. When we face hard things, we can remember that God is right beside us. He gives us courage to keep going, one step at a time.

What do you admire about Job’s perseverance?

Parents, you could talk about how …

“You admire that Job stayed faithful even when life was really hard. He trusted God when he didn’t have answers.”
“Job showed that our faith isn’t about things being easy—it’s about believing God is still good, no matter what.”
“You love how Job kept talking to God. He was honest about his feelings but never gave up on his faith.”

Kids could share how…
“Job didn’t give up when bad stuff happened.”
“He kept trusting God even when he was really sad.”
“Job waited for God to make things better.”

How do you think Job felt when he kept trusting God?

Parents, you could talk about Job’s feelings.

Ask your child what emotions Job might have had; sad, confused, tired, or hopeful. You can say something like:
“Job had a lot of hard days, but he still believed God was with him. Have you ever felt sad or worried but still tried to trust God?”

And you could connect it to your own experiences.

Help your child think about a time they had to trust God when something was tough - “Remember when you were nervous about your test (or a game, or a move)? How did trusting God help you keep going?”

You could also remind your child of God’s love and strength.

End by encouraging your child that God is always near, just like He was with Job: “Even when life feels hard, God doesn’t leave us. He helps us keep going and gives us peace.”

What can our family learn from Job’s example?

Some ideas of what to share:
We can trust God no matter what.
Be honest with God.
God brings hope.

Where do we need to persevere as a family?

Get the conversation started by sharing.
“Maybe we need to keep trying to be patient with each other, even when we’re tired or busy.”
“We can persevere by praying together every night, even when the day feels long.”
“Our family can keep going when things are hard, like when someone is sick or work and school feel stressful.”

How can we encourage each other to keep trusting God?

Parents, you don’t need perfect answers, just honest ones. Your words of faith help your child see what it looks like to trust God every day. You can share things like:
“We can pray for each other and ask God to give us peace and strength.”
“Let’s share Bible verses or songs that help us remember God’s promises.”
“When something good happens, we can thank God together, that helps us remember He’s faithful!”
